The Mijas brand will be present again in the first division of national basketball at the hands of Unicaja after closing a new agreement between the consistory and the sports entity to promote the town and bring the province's fans to the José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace.

As already took place on 5 March, when Mijas experienced a great day being the protagonist of an initiative launched by the Málaga club to promote the province's tourist attractions, showcasing all these attractions to the fans. This season, the city will be part of the 'Our province plays' programme again.

 

José González (PSOE), the Mayor of Mijas, and Andrés Ruiz (Cs), the Mijas Sports Councillor, were present at the event. The Mayor stressed, "the most important thing about this participation is that hundreds of young Mijas people will enjoy a first division match with professionals who will give everything in this magnificent stadium. Since last year was a success of participation, this year we are convinced that it will also be a complete success".

In this new edition, eleven municipalities have joined this initiative in Malaga. It establishes a collaboration of mutual support between the province, basketball fans, and Unicaja Basketball. The Sports Councillor believes that "supporting the Malaga leading team is important because all the kids who play basketball in the municipality see it as the top basketball team. Therefore, supporting it from the institutions is a boost for our foundation.   They see themselves reflected in the province's top team".

The protagonists are the Mijas residents

Thanks to this campaign, the residents of Mijas will enjoy two days with a special promotion. Thus, for the game, the events planned to promote the town will include the installation of a tent outside of Martín Carpena, where they will enjoy a fan zone, in which numerous activities will develop, such as games or the distribution of souvenirs, among others.

 

As for the Unicaja Basketball president, Antonio López, " this campaign links us even more with our municipalities, with our people, who belong to the whole province of Málaga. And specifically with Mijas, we have a much stronger link, as in a few days we will present a great joint project between the town and Unicaja". López did not want to go any further into this project. We will get more information about this new collaboration very soon.
