The Mijas Town Hall has set up a condolence book at the Mayor's Office in La Cala, giving anyone who wishes to write a dedication to Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away last Thursday at the age of 96 and after more than 70 years in the throne.

The Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), started the condolence book on Monday. The Councillor stressed that "with this action, we wanted, in some way, to return to the British that understanding and interculturalism that has always prevailed in Mijas and to empathise with the British population, so important and fundamental for the development of our municipality. As they are sorry, they expressed their wish to have at least this opportunity to show their condolences".

For a month, from Monday to Friday, from nine in the morning to two in the afternoon, this book will remain open, which the Town Hall will pass on to the British Consulate so that they can send it to the Royal Household.

The Mijas First Deputy Mayor, José Carlos Martín (Cs), also signed the book. The Councillor assured us, " we wanted to have this gesture with Queen Elizabeth II, not only for the British but also for world history. So, as it could not be otherwise, Mijas wants to support in these circumstances with this book in which any citizen, not only British but from Mijas, can show their condolences to the British people".

The Foreigners Councillor, Arancha López (Cs), joined in expressing her condolences and sympathy to the British community living in Mijas, who, she said, mourn her loss. "They are our neighbours living with us now. I send them all our affection at this time as after many years they find themselves in a new situation, so all our love, condolences, and a warm and friendly affection for all of them", said the Councillor.

Since early morning, many British people have come to the tenancy to offer condolences to their Royal Household as the Londoner Anne Bowles. She said, "We are sad because the Queen was everyone's grandmother. British people are moved, and our Spanish friends, in restaurants and the street, tell us they feel sorry for us. We feel looked after by them".

The monarch's death marks the end of an unprecedented reign of more than 70 years and the accession to the throne of her firstborn, Prince Charles, 73, who will reign under the name of Charles III.
