Mijas increases the fire brigade staff after 15 years without job offers

  • The Mijas Town Hall launches a public employment offer to fill 22 vacancies, including 4 for Local Police Officers
  • The Mayor, Josele Gonzalez, and the Councillor for Human Resources, Laura Moreno.

The application period started on Tuesday, 16th August, and will end on 13th September

Mijas Town Hall launches a public employment offer with 22 posts to be covered. Among them, six positions are for the fire brigade, a staff that has not been expanded since 2007, as reported by the Mayor, Josele Gonzalez (PSOE), and the Councillor for Human Resources, Laura Moreno (PSOE).

"Since 2007, there has been no firefighter vacancy in this City Council. It has been fifteen years since a position was offered for a body that is so necessary for our municipality, with many scattered areas and urbanisations. For this reason, we have created six positions, one for a firefighter driver, four for a specialist firefighter, and one for a non-commissioned officer in the Fire Fighting Service. We will also reinforce another fundamental security corps, the Local Police, with four positions," explained the Mayor.

In this regard, González highlighted that "since we took office in 2019, we have created 11 firefighter and 23 Local Police positions. It demonstrates the commitment of this government team to the safety and well-being of our residents".

In addition to these positions for Local Police and Firefighters, Mijas Town Hall has also launched calls for other categories. "22 positions, many of them in the operational areas of this Town Hall," said Moreno.

This new public employment offer covers 22 posts published in the Official State Gazette on Friday, 12th August. There are the following positions; a painter officer post, a mechanic officer post, a maintenance technician post, a technical engineer post, a fireman driver post, a fire extinguishing service sub-officer post, two driver officer posts, two operative posts, four bricklayer officer posts, four specialist fireman posts, and four Local Police officer posts.

Job applications

The submitting applications deadline begins on Tuesday, 16th August, and will run until 13th September. The terms and conditions of the application process are already on the municipal website.

An increase in vacancies complements others already in place as " since we became Mayor in July 2019, 23 Local Police vacancies, and 11 firefighter vacancies were created", said Moreno. For the Councillor, this is "a clear demonstration of the commitment of this City Council to safety, in this case, the Local Police but also something  important, the Fire Department ''. An area which, as she recalled, "has proved especially necessary in recent times when the town has suffered several fires''.

"Each call is detailed in the bases, such as: requirements, procedure to follow, application form, and documents to be attached. There are calls for open competitions and competitive examinations," adds the Director of Human Resources at Mijas Town Hall, Carolina Arcos.

In addition, the application form specifies requirements for each process, along with the documentation to attach, such as qualifications and other requirements. "These are open calls for applications, which means that anyone who meets the requirements can apply. And on the other hand, there are calls for applications by competitive examination only, which are those for firefighters and police officers, and calls for competitions and competitive examinations where all the merits that are valued and that the different applicants will have to provide are detailed," concluded Arcos.
