The UP new students' registration period is now open

  • The 2022-2023 Popular University course will start on September 15th
  • Last year, the course closed with nearly 3,000 students.

Those registered as residents will be able to enrol from Tuesday 16th August and those who are not registered will do so from 6th September

A new registration time will open next Tuesday, 16th August, for residents in Mijas who are interested in enrolling in one of the many workshops available at the Mijas Open University. This enrollment is for new students registered in the municipality, who will have until the 13th of September to enrol. Then, from the 6th to the 13th of September, non-residents can also register for the Open University courses for 2022/2023.

Hipólito Zapico, Councillor for Open Universities in Mijas, highlights that the new 2022-2023 course brings many interesting novelties. Among them, a new filmmaking course, which will include how to write a script and edit videos, so students will learn how to make a short film from beginning to end. Zapico also spoke about changes in dance workshops and the possibility of offering a theatre workshop in La Cala. Regarding languages, a new level of German will be available for students that have completed the basic course, as well as Spanish courses for Ukrainians, whose demand has increased due to the number of refugees arriving to Mijas in the past few months. Zapico also mentioned that the idea is to help them integrate in the Spanish society, find a job and enjoy their life here with us.

  • The Popular University Councillor, Hipólito Zapico.

As for the former students who have already been able to enrol in the first period in the Popular University courses, the Councillor said, "we have reached 2,000 students, so we are happy to highlight Popular University importance".

Last year, the course closed with nearly 3,000 students. A slightly higher number than the average before the pandemic. According to the Councillor, "all indicates that we have returned to normality", stressing "the great work done during the pandemic not to stop classes, to maintain online classes, such a tremendous effort made by families and teachers, and the centre's management".

The Popular Universities Department reminds us that registration can be done online through its website (up.mijas.es) You can also check out all the workshops' information offered in the three municipality centres.
