For yet another year, the magic returns to Mijas with its traditional Blues Night. Organised by the Tourism Department of Mijas Town Hall, on Saturday 9th July, the Miguel González Berral Municipal Auditorium hosted The Gangberries, Néstor Pardo Trío, and The Reverend Shawn Amos for the delight of blues fans. "It's always great to come to a free blues festival, and even more so organised by our Town Hall," said Ana Rico, one of the attendees. "We've lived in Mijas for a few years, but we're from the United States, and we love the blues. That's why we came '', said Maite Calleja, another of the attendees. Chicho Díaz, another spectator, said, "the blues is a music of roots, and just as I love flamenco, the blues transmits strange and beautiful sensations within me".
'La Cochera Producciones' brings this popular event back to Mijas for another year. A show in which magic combines with the village's charm for the enjoyment of locals and tourists alike. "It is one of our summer classics," said the Councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), adding that it is "an attraction also for all the tourists who come to our town. With this show, we are enjoying fantastic performances".
Blues essence
The line-up included the Americans The Reverend Shawn Amos, the trio Néstor Pardo and the Malaga band The Gangberries. "Our repertoire is mainly made up of classic blues. We do covers of Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and many others, but we always play classics'', said the Gangberries' vocalist and guitarist, Fran Pacheco. This band is made up of bassist Javier Martín, drummer Federico Álvarez and Jesús Durán on keyboards.
Attendees also enjoyed stands with food and drinks to make this event a night of ten.
More events
The Tourism Department has more activities planned for full entertainment in the town. "Next month, we will be enjoying the Celtic Night. Although it aims at a more foreign profile, it will also make the locals' enjoyment," said Martín, adding that "in this way, we attract tourists to our town so that, once these shows are over, they can enjoy the rest of the attractions of our town.
