The Mijas coastline already has three blue flags, nine 'Q' for Quality, the ISO 14001 and the Andalucía Segura, and Safe Tourism Certified seals

The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín (Cs), and the Councillor for Health, Candela León (Cs), have received from the Health and Family Department the three flags of Smoke-Free Beach corresponding to the three Mijas beaches adhered to the Andalusian Health Services Network and Smoke-Free Areas of the Junta de Andalucía (Calahonda-La Luna-Royal Beach, El Bombo and La Cala). "Our aim has always been to raise awareness among users of the need to respect the environment and health benefits of giving up cigarettes. For non-smokers, being surrounded by smoke is a problem, and they don't feel as comfortable. That's why it's important to work on coexistence and to set up places where they can breathe tobacco-free air," said Martín.

The First Deputy Mayor pointed out that "the three smoke-free Mijas beaches have also been awarded blue flags, which means a double tourist appeal".
León has also highlighted "the anti-smoking programmes developed by the Department of Health, both in prevention, especially in schools, and in helping people to stop smoking". The Councillor added that "the fact of making the beaches smoke-free also means that children who go to the sea with their families do not identify smoking with something recreational, as well as avoiding these involuntary inhalations which can be harmful to their health".

  • The Mijas Town Hall also carries out awareness programmes on the smoke-free beaches every year |

In the same way, the Mijas Town Hall also carries out awareness programmes on the smoke-free beaches every year, having specific posters with the advantages of giving up smoking and warnings about the effect of tobacco on health. Councillors agreed that "it is important to continue to promote a healthy lifestyle and put an end to this problem".

The Mijas coastline has three blue flags, nine 'Q' for Quality, ISO 14001, along the Andalucía Segura and Safe Tourism Certified seals, and the only Blue Centre and Blue Trail in the Malaga province. Now added the three Smoke-free Beach flags, which, the Councillors remind us, "add to the quality and excellence of our coast".
