The Mijas Town Hall plenary hall turned into an improvised cinema last Friday, where the foreign residents participating in the Mijas Secrets programme attended the screening of the documentary by José María Burgos, 'Mijas, un pueblo de cine' (Mijas, a film village). "In chronological order the first is from the 57, by Brigitte Bardot, and the last is from 86, by the Duo Sacapuntas. There are some 20 or 22 films". The documentary's director added, "due to the Mijas proximity to the coast, it was very exotic to come here to film for these directors at the beginning of the tourist boom". The locations in the village most captured by the film cameras, Burgos points out, " the bullring, the Plaza de la Constitución, and the donkey taxis".
The importance of Mijas Pueblo in those years on the Costa del Sol was shown to the public through the seventh art. "Mijas Secrets offers them the opportunity to learn more about the culture and history of our municipality. They feel very attracted to learning about these curiosities, customs, and traditions. Many of them have been living with us for years, but they don't know our municipality's hidden charms. Thanks to this programme, they are discovering them", declared the Foreigners' Councillor, Arancha López (Cs). In this sense, one of the participants, Christian Bagan, said: "I have been to Mijas on several occasions. This time is an opportunity to learn more about the town and its history".
At the end of the screening, the group toured the locations where the films featured in the documentary were shot. "The bullring, the Padrastro when the Virgen de la Peña Square didn't exist, the Barrio Ravine, Osunillas, and the old cemetery. What we are going to do is see the progress of these places that have been changing from a geographical, social and cultural point of view," said Sandra Gallardo, guide of Mijas Secrets.
