The installation of the new assistance base in the Aquamijas car park is the result of the collaboration between the Mijas Town Hall and the Public Health Emergency Company (EPES) to keep 061 in the municipality after studying alternative locations for this module in other towns. "It has been a joint effort by 061 and the Health Department to maintain the emergency service in Mijas and provide a better location for the service in the face of emergencies. The base is now in a location with direct access to the motorway, which would provide more optimal service," said the Councillor for Health in Mijas, Candela León (Cs), on Tuesday.
After reaching an agreement between EPES and the Mijas Town Hall, the new 061 assistance base and its two ambulances will be on a plot of 165 square metres ceded by the Town Hall. It will replace its current location, behind the Las Lagunas Health Centre. This place "has become outdated, as it does not meet the required service conditions. Therefore, with 061, it was explained the service should stay in Mijas and be provided in better conditions than it already had. In terms of infrastructure, not the quality of service obviously, that has always worked", explained the Councillor for Operational Services, José Carlos Martín (Cs).
Work on the fitting out of this modular structure began a few months ago with the connection of electricity, drainage, and fibre optics by Operational Services. It will provide service between now and the beginning of September.
