The Mijas Town Hall, in coordination with the Coastal Department, is working to ensure that the Mijas coastline is in perfect condition for the arrival of the high season. This was stated by the Mijas Councillor in charge, José Carlos Martín (Cs), on a visit to the area this morning. He explained that "we have four vehicles from 'Costas' and six of our vehicles that, along our coastline, provide sand and are finishing, the last points that were damaged in some way by the last storms. The work aims to provide sand where it is lacking and condition the areas where it is surplus".
During these days, 15,000 cubic metres of sand is being provided on La Cala beach, and similar work will be carried out on Calahonda beach. The two coastline areas most affected by the latest storms. These tasks will finish on Tuesday next week, and indicates that there will be others that will continue throughout the summer as " algae are appearing on our coastline and, as we already know how to deal with them, we have the whole system ready. It is another of those jobs that also generates resources and expenses, but we want to tell beach users that we know they are going to come, and we are ready for them", the Councillor points out.
Martín assures that the seaweed removal will continue to be carried out early in the morning so that the beaches are ready for the bathers' arrival who will be watched over from Monday to Sunday from Wednesday onwards, as the lifeguard operation will be activated daily from June 1st, onwards. "Our lifeguard team has been working since Easter, on the weekends. Now, on the 1st of June, the entire team will be deployed and will remain active throughout the summer, with all the posts staffed and all the elements that make up the team", concludes Martín.
