The Mijas Town Hall recovers one of its historic events, the celebration of the Latin Night. Book the following date: Saturday 11th June, from 8.30 pm, in the Virgen de la Peña square. The Tourism Department, in collaboration with ‘Producciones Raíces’, is organising this event, which returns almost a decade after its last edition. “We are sure that all those who come to the Virgen de la Peña square will have a pleasant night listening and dancing salsa, merengue, and bachata, among other musical genres,” said the Tourism Councillor, José Carlos Martín (Cs) on Thursday.
One of the objectives of the Latin Night, the Councillor went on to explain, is to strengthen ties with our South American brothers, offering them a space to show their culture through music and dance. But obviously, this event also aims to entertain the residents of Mijas, and all the tourists who come,” will enjoy our municipality and this event so much, that they will surely, come back to visit us again on another occasion”.

Performance program

From 8.30 pm, the Virgen de la Peña square will be a visual, musical, and entertainment show, with groups such as Mariachis al Son de México, the orchestra La-Tino Kali, and Show de Brazil. There will also be a tribute to the legendary Cuban orchestra Buena Vista Social Club. “It’s a very nice tribute to traditional Cuban music, which will also be present,” said Rafael Urquiza, Director of ‘Producciones Raíces’.
The night’s finale will be provided by the Eddy MC Leand orchestra, “who come from Madrid and are known as the UN orchestra as their members come from different countries such as Panama, Cuba, and Colombia. They have made a hybrid of international music, mixing genres such as salsa, bachata, and merengue. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” explained Urquiza.

The revitalisation of shops and restaurants

There will not be a tent for each participating Latin American nation this year, said the Tourism Department head, Juan Carlos Acevedo. “We intend that the town’s establishments, especially those around the Virgen de la Peña square, offer Latin American product tastings such as Mexican tacos or Venezuelan arepas, and we have already passed on this invitation to the Mijas Traders’ Association”.
So, if you want to travel around Latin America, dance, and have a lively night out, all you have to do is come to Mijas on the 11th of June. The entrance, as usual, is free.
