After the pilgrims' route, the traditional get-together is held in the 'El Esparragal' park

Las Lagunas Pilgrimage in honour of the patron saint of Las Lagunas, the 'Nuestra Señora Vírgen de la Paz', will take place on Sunday 29th May. The Fiestas Department of the Mijas Town Hall and the Brotherhood of 'Jesús Vivo,' 'Nuestra Señora de la Piedad' and 'Nuestra Señora de la Paz' de Las Lagunas are already prepared to celebrate this traditional festivity again, after two editions without being able to be held due to the pandemic.

"We recently presented the poster announcing the pilgrimage, which will take place this Sunday, May 29th, as a preview of the Las Lagunas Fair. We hope to have a successful participation of all our neighbours," said the Fiestas Councillor, Tamara Vera (PSOE),who gave a preview of some details of the event.

A holy mass will be celebrated in the 'San Manuel González' parish church in Las Lagunas at 10:30 am. The pilgrims will then set off to the 'El Esparragal' park. "The idea is to enjoy this great walk to 'El Esparragal' where, as every year, we will also enjoy a large rice dish which will be free for all those attending, and live music so that we can enjoy the best dances in this pilgrimage," added Vera.

An extensive activity programme

On arrival at the El Esparragal park, the 'Nuestra Señora Virgen de la Paz' image will be placed in its small chapel where residents who wish to do so will approach it. And from midday onwards, the organisers have planned activities for all ages, live music, and the traditional competitions. "There will be traditional activities, prizes for the best cart, the best dressed, the groups that enjoy along the way and, of course, our horsemen who will accompany us all the way", added the Councillor. In addition, explained the organisers, there will be activities for all ages, live music and traditional competitions from midday onwards.

In addition, explained municipal sources, for those who come on horseback to the 'El Esparragal' park, an area will be set up for them inside the park for safety reasons.

The Fiestas Department and the Las Lagunas brotherhood are working hand in hand to ensure that no detail is missing. "I must always thank the Las Lagunas 'Jesús Vivo' Brotherhood as they are an integral part of this entity, and I know they have been working on this initiative for months," said Vera. To see their patron saint again on a pilgrimage is something that Las Lagunas people are looking forward to with great emotion and devotion.
