Municipal nursery schools donate products to Ukrainian refugee children

  • The solidarity campaign is promoted by the Red Cross with the collaboration of Mijas Town Hall
  • Batch of products collected by the Gloria Fuertes Nursery School in Las Lagunas

These schools have collected food, hygiene products, and school supplies will be donated to the Mijas refugee families

Follow-up milk, baby food, nappies, and even crayons are needed. These products are essential for children, and many of the Ukrainian refugee families in Mijas need them. For this reason, a few weeks ago, a call was made from the nursery schools to collect them. "Today, the Red Cross is carrying out this campaign collection to help the families of Ukrainian refugees in Mijas. The families having young children know what they need, for sure," said the Mijas Town Councillor for Nursery Schools, Verónica Ensberg (PSOE).

Ensberg is grateful for the Mijas families' quick response to this solidarity call, which arrived just a few days ago in the four municipal nursery schools. Therefore, "we are grateful that Mijas families show solidarity and have collaborated in such a way. The campaign has been well received, and a wide variety of products have been purchased," said the Councillor.

The campaign has been promoted by the Red Cross that is looking after 150 Ukrainian refugee families in Mijas. The majority are mothers with their children, which means that the number of children is very high. It is what the Youth technician, Miriam Fernández, said, "we are happy, we did not know how the population would respond to the campaign, and we have received many little things that will come in very handy".

Once again, the Mijas schools show their solidarity by instilling these values in their children. "The children are aware, and they have been delighted to come and put themselves the little things on the tables we had set up to collect the products. Besides, they have made Ukrainian flags with their handprints, to leave their little fingerprint as a sign of their commitment to the Ukrainian children", emphasised the Director of the Gloria Fuertes nursery school (Las Lagunas), Alicia Castillo.

You can still collaborate on this campaign. The nursery schools assure us that they will continue collecting these products until they are no longer needed, which we hope will be soon.
