  • Andrés Ruiz (Cs), the Mijas Town Planning Councillor, explained that the initiative offers complementary reception services, restaurant, bar, social and leisure club.

The site will be upgraded to a luxury category, making it the first on the Costa del Sol with this classification

The integral remodelling of the historic Mijas-Fuengirola campsite has already begun, which will be upgraded to a luxury category, making it the first on the Costa del Sol to obtain this classification. The project covers an area of 40,000 square metres, divided between the municipalities of Mijas and Fuengirola. There will be three accommodation areas: bungalows, another one for free camping, and a third for motorhomes.

Likewise this Morning, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), the Mijas Town Planning Councillor, explained that the initiative offers complementary reception services, restaurant, bar, social and leisure club. Besides, game rooms, supermarket, park and children's club, multi-purpose sports facilities (3 sports minimum), outdoor sports circuit, adult swimming pool and one for children, to name just a few. "Not only will it improve the total reconstruction of the campsite, the first luxury category campsite on the coast of Malaga, but also the surrounding infrastructure will be improved, benefiting some of the residents' . He pointed out that this plot has access by three roads: Tejón Street, la Ponderosa Way, and Los Chopos Street.

The works have a private investment of 1.1 million euros and have a completion period of approximately 18 months. They have begun with the demolition of the previous constructions, except for a toilet module, which will be fitted out internally. The rest will all be new. A total of 195 plots are planned, of which 105 will be for mobile homes, 18 for bungalows and 72 for free camping. The vegetation will also play a fundamental role as climate control, visual and acoustic filter, and regenerating elements of the autochthonous landscape.

The Councillor valued all the previous work carried out to reach this moment. "The Mijas Town Hall processed the building permit but the Junta de Andalucía also knows in detail the project as it is the one that grants the tourist campsite classification", argued Ruiz. He also mentioned this initiative is good news, as it goes in line with what we promote to fight against the tourist seasonality".

In this regard, the Town Planning Councillor added that this campsite is in an attractive area from a tourist point of view, just a few metres from the beach.  The urban developers have preferred to  go ahead with this activity instead of promoting a commercial park, as initially was planned. "I think it has been a good decision as this type of campsite will improve our city model, focused on tourism, so congratulations to all 'Mijeños'," Ruiz concluded.
