The councillor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín (Cs) reported on Thursday 5th the Mijas Coastal Path has, once again, obtained the Blue Trail award. It is a certification granted by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC) to those itineraries that allow environmental interpretation and enjoyment of nature through recreational, sporting or tourist activities. “It is a difficult award to be obtained as they are rigorous when it comes to awarding it. The magnificent work carried out practically by the whole Town Hall and the businessmen of the Beaches sector throughout the year makes it possible for this award to be renewed once again,” said Martín.
Mijas is the only municipality in Malaga to hold this award. It takes a series of criteria to be fulfilled, such as, the layout, services, signposting, accessibility, and user information. In addition to this, the Beaches Department stresses “the work done on the beaches all year round, a work which in the winter months, is quieter and calmer, and in Easter time when the first tourists arrive, they look wonderful”. Martín added, “we are obtaining the results of the audits which grant these accreditations”.
This year, the Council hopes to renew the Blue Centre status for the “Torreón de La Cala” as an Interpretation Centre for the Watchtowers. “All this combination of beaches, culture, gastronomy, and climate makes Mijas an attractive municipality, and one of our main visiting cards is our beaches”, concluded Martín.
