Some hotel resorts worked with their entire staff

The TRH Mijas and the Vik Gran Hotel managers' declare that from Maundy Thursday to Holy Saturday, the occupancy rate exceeded 90%. The rooms were not fully occupied until a few days before Passion Week at the TRH Hotel. The clientele, especially the national customer, waited until last minute to confirm their reservation, says Félix Reyes, Hotel Manager: "From Easter Monday, the reservations began to come in and, finally, it was a good Holy Week as from Thursday to Holy Saturday, we have been complete, 100%, and the rest of the days, we have swung between 70 and 80%. It has been a good Easter Week according to the forecast we had initially of 50, or 60 free rooms".

Meanwhile, the average hotel occupancy rate at the Vik Gran Hotel Costa del Sol was around 75%, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. "On the big days, we have been between 90 and 95%.  A good occupancy rate," said general manager Manuel Camacho.

As for the customer profile, the two resorts point out that both international and national guests have been accommodated. "We already had a client base of 60-70% international clients, but in the latest bookings, it has been all national market," said Reyes.

At the Vik Gran Hotel, says Camacho, "normally at Easter, we have had a lot of national tourism, but on this occasion, it has been 50/50, with a predominance of English tourists and, obviously, with nationals booking at the last minute".

Good summer

For both directors, Easter means the starting signal for the high season. "We hope this season will be quite good, and hopefully, we can reach the levels we had before the pandemic", says Reyes. Camacho, for his part, affirms that "having had good weather now, at Easter, as we are going to have in the summer, we have seen that demand exists, so we expect to be a good summer and reach levels of up to 85 to 95%".

Employment

The entire workforce has been rescued from the ERTEs, and in some cases, new hires have also been made. "Since the 1st of April, the entire staff is full, and we are already recovering the permanent-discontinuous contract staff for this year's season," said the director of TRH Mijas. "We have also had to take on new hires as these levels are almost summer levels," said the Vik Gran Hotel general manager.
