Almost thirty writers will be present at the next Mijas Book Fair, which will take place on the 29th and 30th of April in the San Valentín de Las Lagunas passage. "It is going to be an intense two-day fair with fifteen book presentations, where thirty authors will be present, presenting a wide variety of titles and literary genres for all audiences", announced Natalia Martínez (PSOE), Councillor of the Library Department of the Mijas Town Hall.
The initiative has been very well received by the authors themselves. "It is fantastic because it allows us, authors, to continue to know and support each other, and it also allows us to be in contact with the readers. It is an incredible initiative and you can count on me whenever something like this is created", declared Alberto Arroyo, who has five theatre books published.
For his part, Juan Carlos Toribio, who said he was "delighted to participate", will be signing his latest book, 'La edades del naufragio': "Writing a book is very difficult and has a lot of work. For this reason, it is praiseworthy and interesting that people with this initiative are coming up in a town".
In addition to the presentations and book signings, there will also be room for children and the reading club. "We will have workshops and storytelling for families to come, all related to the Book Day and literature," said Martínez, who thanked the reading club for their participation "as they will be holding their monthly meeting in this square".
Likewise, the Library Department will set up its stand, and the Lions Club will have a solidarity display with second-hand books, while the cultural magazine 'El Almiré' will donate books in exchange for products that will go to the Mijas Food Bank. "The Library will be present to inform us about all the services we offer from the Department. We will also register new members, and they will be welcome to make bibliographic enquiries," said the Councillor

"It is an event that the artists themselves have been asking, and it has had a positive reception from them. The final touch the Library Department is providing to boost literature in our municipality. These presentations and workshops that we already have will continue to hold throughout the year," added the Councillor.
Book Day in schools
Besides this fair, Mijas has commemorated Book Day with the first and second-year primary school pupils' visit to the municipal libraries. An activity held, throughout the week, to promote reading at these ages and instil the importance of books, storytelling, and a heartfelt tribute to one of the most renowned Spanish poets of the twentieth century, Miguel Hernández.
