The Youth Department is launching the Youth Antennas programme. A new initiative in which young people will be the protagonists. The work of these antennas will be mainly to inform other young people of the municipality's activities and collect their demands. The youth antennas will be people between 14 and 31 years old who will voluntarily and responsibly dedicate part of their free time to inform other young people through schools, neighbourhood associations, leisure centres and youth centres. The Youth Councillor, Tamara Vera (PSOE), explained that "the youth part was key so we wanted to touch on it in our diagnosis to, through it, start working in that direction. Young people need and want greater involvement within the municipal section".
The objective is precise that young people themselves be the ones who spread the information among them and collect their demands to transfer them to the Youth Department of the Mijas Town Hall and thus, improve their daily life in the municipality. The Councillor emphasised that the programme was born "from a need that we detected, and the participatory diagnosis that was carried out in the three population centres. Also, according to their demand, it was vital for young people to have greater involvement in the municipal section. We want them to feel involved in the first person".
In this sense, Pedro Muñoz, Youth technician, stressed that "the Youth Antennas are the voice of the Mijas young people" and added that "the programs are going to be slightly adapted to what they conveyed to us. In addition, we also want to reward them with our activities, with volunteers at concerts, in the activities we carry out. It is always a challenge and an adventure to participate in an event, and they always enjoy these activities". He also stressed that "from the first meetings, we want to organise weekly sessions with the different groups that are created".
Three meeting points will be set up, one in each nucleus. The first meeting will take place on Thursday 21st April at 5:30 pm in Mijas Town Hall.
