The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Beaches in Mijas, José Carlos Martín (Cs), announced this morning that the town's beaches are ready to welcome tourists this Easter after recovering "in record time" the entire coastline from the strong storm that has hit the Costa del Sol recently. "I would like to highlight the work of all the municipal workers who have been so involved in achieving the seemingly impossible task of restructuring all the work that the sea destroyed just a few days before our high season started. Without their tenacity and commitment it would not have been possible," said the Councillor.
In this way, Martín has reported that "since Wednesday when the storm subsided, Mijas has had more than twenty machines and 150 staff repairing the damage from 7 am to 9 pm". Thus, the department has used a total of 24 machines for the regeneration and homogenisation of the sand, the removal of plant debris and waste, as well as the sweeping of the most affected areas such as "Los Cordobeses". Five rotating excavators of 20, 8 and 6-tonne, three shovel loaders, three tractors, two mixed machines, two mini-excavators, two bucket loaders and six loading-trucks, have been working tiredlessly.
"The coastal path has been repaired, and the lifeguard towers have been reinstalled. We have also reinstated the concrete walkways and the universal access areas for people with reduced mobility. In short, hard work allows us to be ready with one of our fundamental business cards such as 'sun and beach' at the beginning of a crucial season to recover our economy after the health and economic crisis of the COVID-19", he concludes.
