The Mijas Impulsa project, promoted by Mijas Town Hall, came to an end yesterday. In February 2019, it was launched to improve the socio-occupational integration of Mijeños in vulnerable situations. "Since we came to the government team, we have worked very hard to give Mijas people working opportunities and, above all, to those who were unemployed. It was one of our main concerns and priorities," said the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE).
Since its inception, Mijas Impulsa has launched 19 training actions, 15 with certificates of professionalism, accommodating 285 unemployed people in the municipality. A programme co-financed with European Funds and the Mijas Town Hall which in terms of employability, has resulted in an insertion rate of over 60%. "Quality training has been provided, and this has had a positive impact on job placement," said the Councillor. He pointed out that "today, we have the opportunity to thank all those people who have trusted Mijas Town Hall to participate in these training courses which have had a high percentage of job placement, more than 60%. We have also been very fortunate to have all the business sectors of the municipality.
Laura Moreno (PSOE), the Councillor responsible for the Employment Promotion Department, indicated that "more than 700 applications were received, from which 285 students were selected to take part in this exciting project. It had the collaboration of more than 96 companies in Mijas and the surrounding area where the internships were carried out".
Both companies and students benefited from this public-private collaboration. "As a result of these agreements, some 200 people were hired during this period," said Moreno, "I have to thank all the productive fabric that has made possible this job placement at a time marked by the pandemic and have given a job opportunity to these unemployed people.
The Mijas Town Hall wanted to thank "the commitment and trust" placed in this project by students, teachers, companies and administrative staff of the "Mijas Impulsa" programme.
Commitment to the business fabric
Mijas Impulsa provided training, among others, in social and health care in institutions, data recording and processing, gardening, surface cleaning and warehouse management and logistics. The students' experience with this programme has been very positive, as Juan Antonio Suárez pointed out: "A different experience, very nice where we have shared many things, and where there has been great companionship ".
For her part, Ana María Marín, also a student of this programme, thanked ADIMI for the opportunity to do her internship. Thanks to them, I have an employment relationship, I have a contract", she said excitedly.
The employers also highlighted the students' professionalism during the work experience period. In some cases, this work resulted in a contract. "For us, it has been great, two people came, and one finally stayed working in the company", said Miguel Ángel Marañón, from "Semillero La Palma", who pointed out that "from the first moment, the experience was very positive for us. On the one hand, it makes it easier for you to find people in the sector, and on the other, they are trained in this field".
"The experience was good, both in ADIMI and in my company. This project brought us closer to good people with a great desire to work, who are looking for a second chance, which I love. It seemed that doors were closing, and this project opened them," said Cristobal Moreno, President of ADIMI, who also has his own company, Cristobal Moreno Proyectos and Services.
The government team would like to thank both students and companies for their commitment to "Mijas Impulsa". "To all the companies that have collaborated over the years, I want to thank them enormously, as without them this programme would not make sense, without the recruitment and trust of these companies, projects like this would hardly have a chance," said the Mayor of Mijas.
Teamwork
Behind this successful programme, according to the Town Hall, it is worth highlighting the work done by the teachers and administrative staff, who have put all the resources at their disposal to train the students who have been part of "Mijas Impulsa" in the best possible conditions. Seven people have been part of the administration team. "Our balance is positive, we carried out the 19 training courses that we had to. The students' insertion data has been quite favourable," said the project coordinator, Carmen Méndez, who assured that "more than 2,000 people have attended" who were looking for a place in the courses offered.
"It is one of the most important programmes in recent years, as of its three-year duration. We were usually used to doing schools, and other types of training lasting one year or six months. It has also highlighted the value of team cohesion in difficult situations, and at the same time with insertion of companies that has been spectacular", declared Margarita Izcue, Head of the Employment Promotion Department.
One of the most difficult teams' tasks was the companies search, as Méndez pointed out: "In some cases, it has been difficult to find companies to be able to accommodate all the students, for example, for the administrative assistant course because an administrative agency could only take on one trainee. These certificates of professionalism have been more complex because we needed more companies".
Another factor the department had to contend with was the pandemic, which forced them to reconfigure the course programme. "It was us, with the arrival of the pandemic, who requested a modification of training activities to adapt them to the moment we were living through," Méndez pointed out.
The teaching staff
Another of the main axes of the "Mijas Impulsa" project has been the teaching staff. In this sense, Belén Rincón took the opportunity to congratulate the students: "For their involvement and the interest they have maintained during their training, so important for us teachers, our work is difficult, but when the students make it easier for us, the path is much more bearable".
For her part, Josefa Corbacho pointed out that "what the students value most is learning something different from what they were doing, and that can allow them to opt for a job. That is the main thing because they want to feel useful and have the freedom to work, and to be able to earn a salary, which is what we all need".
All this work was highlighted by the department responsible. "I believe that teachers, students and employers are fundamental, and this union closes with the labour insertion", declared Moreno.
Finally, the Mayor of Mijas, pointed out that "from the Town Hall, we are constantly actively listening when it comes to launching this type of course, and at the same time we are lucky to have a highly qualified training staff who know what they are doing and have demonstrated it".
