The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Beaches of Mijas, José Carlos Martín (Cs), this morning, took stock of the damage that the Levante storm has caused on the Mijas coast last night and during this day. "We are losing a lot of sand, and the sea has moved and destroyed the concrete walkways imitating wood that we had already installed for access and use of the beaches for this Easter, two lifeguard chairs and two showers," said the Councilman.
Weather forecasts call for an orange alert where strong winds from the east and northeast of force 8 to 9 and waves of 4 to 6 metres are expected. "We have set up an emergency plan to control this storm and repair any damage", adds Martín, "the department's workers are monitoring the state of the beaches and their evolution".
For the moment, the coastal path has not been affected, and the three new sections recently inaugurated have responded well to the circumstances. The Council will mark along the coast the accesses or points of the beaches that could be a danger due to the winds and waves. "We have to start from scratch all the work we have been doing to get our beaches ready for Easter, as the storm has ruined everything. We expect the weather to clear up on Wednesday, five days away from Palm Sunday. We will spare no means and efforts to combat the damage caused by the inclement weather, and we are going to leave the coast of Mijas at the level of excellence it always is," concludes the Deputy Mayor.
