At the end of the first quarter of 2022, the Mijas Town Hall Public Roads area has taken stock of the data obtained by this department. Figures that reflect "the constant movement of the municipality", according to the Councillor responsible for the department, Nicolás Cruz (PSOE). Thus, concerning the vats authorisations, "a total of 60 were managed in 2021, and this year 80 authorisations have been issued, which is almost a 34 per cent increase. As for street closures and parking reservation authorisations, they have gone from 124 in 2021 to 148 in 2022, which represents an increase of more than 19 per cent," adds Cruz. "We wanted to publish this data as, in a way, the Public Roads department is a little unknown to the general public. Not in vain, many issues arise that we do not have jurisdiction over. They have a solution and a specific department to deal with it. We talk about road safety issues, parks and gardens, cleanliness..." explained the Councillor.

  • This department works mainly with authorisations and inspections of occupations on the public road |

This department works mainly with authorisations and inspections of occupations on public roads, "reflecting interesting data on the reality of the municipality, and suggesting that the activity related to construction, renovations and actions in buildings are becoming even more active after the pandemic," said Cruz. According to the Councillor, "we maintain a very intense activity in the municipality. In fact, in this first quarter of the year, we managed 755 authorisations that include fords, chairs and tables terrace occupations. Moreover, in these first months, there have been four film or series requests for filming in the town streets".
We know "Mijas is the municipality of the Costa del Sol that applies fewer taxes to these occupations of public roads", explained the Councillor. The department also reminds us that authorisations must be requested 72 hours in advance, either through the website www.mijas.es, by email via.publica@mijas.es or in person at the department's office at the Local Police Headquarters.
