Next June, one of the emblems of the Costa del Sol will reopen its doors. This is the Byblos Hotel, renamed La Zambra, a five-star luxury establishment that on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of April will be holding a recruitment conference for kitchen and dining room staff at the Employment Promotion building. It was announced yesterday by the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), accompanied by the Councillor for Employment Promotion, Laura Moreno (PSOE), and the hotel manager, Joost Kruissen.

"As a result of the valuable agreement we signed with the hotel La Zambra that at least 50 per cent of the staff hired were Mijas residents, we continue now, with the work of a staff selection. In this case, with a conference aimed at the selection of room and kitchen staff, that will take place in Employment Promotion," said the Mijas Councilor. He stressed that "he was happy with this collaboration that will allow our town to have a hotel of these characteristics again.  A 5-star luxury hotel that also places us internationally as a reference on the Costa del Sol. It is an objective that we are also working on, from the public administration, with the promotion of various projects that will see the light in the coming months to make our destination a benchmark of quality at all levels. All this, keeping in mind how important is generating job opportunities for Mijas people. We must remember that this hotel will directly create more than 250 jobs.  

For his part, Moreno has emphasized that these days are "the result of the ongoing collaboration that we are carrying out with the hotel La Zambra. We will try to ensure that those 120 people, who they need for room and kitchen staff, are from Mijas as our goal will always be the employability of our unemployed." Adding that "we give all the facilities, and human resources they need, to develop these three recruitment days.  In addition to the relevant interviews, there will be some other surprises that will make the unemployed who participate in it, take the best possible experience".

Necessary personnel

According to the Director of La Zambra, Joost Kruissen, "we are looking for waiters, and kitchen staff in all positions, from a head chef to a chef de cuisine to a dishwasher. They will need English, especially if it is a front-of-house job, within the kitchen, it is not an essential requirement, and experience not only in hotels but also in luxury restaurants. We are going to evaluate all profiles as we have a training department. It will help the staff to complete their training for the excellent service that we are looking for".

Opening in June

The emblematic Hotel Byblos in Mijas will reopen in June as La Zambra, a fully renovated 5-star luxury hotel with 197 rooms and suites, a spa, sports area, multidisciplinary event rooms, a discotheque and a children's area.

The hotel will offer four culinary proposals that pay homage to Spanish gastronomic culture: a gastronomic restaurant based on Andalusian cuisine, a more informal option for families with children, a gastro bar with a terrace facing the golf courses that will offer service in the pool area, the main restaurant offering an à la carte breakfast, and two very different atmospheres for lunch and dinner, with multiple options available.
