After many waiting years, the Mijas Pueblo Infant School is now part of the Family Aid Programme of the Regional Ministry of Education of the Junta de Andalucía. A necessary step that has involved a long journey both from the administrative point of view as well as the adaptation of the centre itself, which was subjected to comprehensive reform, to adapt to the regulations, and which was a commitment made to the families of Mijas by the government team. "We have achieved in a short time something that we had been waiting for for decades, and that the Mijas Pueblo families had been demanding. In a short time, with a pandemic in between, we have managed to unblock a situation that was not at all easy. We have been very persistent with the Nursery Schools Department from the Junta de Andalucía to find a solution to this deadlock," said the Mijas Councillor, Josele González (PSOE).
This programme aims to promote children schooling under 3 years of age in the first cycle of nursery schools. But what does it all mean for Mijas' families? "From next year, all families will be able to access subsidies and even get a 100% discount per month for this service. In addition, they will be able to benefit from the extension of hours, from 7:30 am to 5 pm, like the rest of Mijas families who have their children in our nursery schools, and dining room service," said the Councillor responsible for Nursery Schools, Verónica Ensberg (PSOE). "They will have the same services, morning class, dining room, quality services. In addition to having a completely renovated nursery school, something that was a commitment, even before coming to the government team," added, for his part, the Mayor.
The centre's management is delighted with this news. "We have fought hard, and it is a joy as we are going to help the town, and province families with a good service", declared the director, Anabel Perea. She points out that one of the situations that were occurring in this nursery school was the loss of pupils, as, in some cases, "work and family life became incompatible as we could not offer the timetables that the families needed, and they had to resort to other centres in Las Lagunas".
In this sense, González declared that "this inequality the Mijas Pueblo Nursery School found itself, thanks to the government team's intention, has been solved and now all the Mijas nursery schools are in the same position", stressed the Councillor, who also highlighted Mijas' commitment to the municipal nursery schools. "We, from the government team, will continue to support public nursery schools, something that, remember, do not do other municipalities in the province. It is a public service that has to be given by the Mijas City Council," added the Councillor.

"It is a very familiar centre, totally adapted, located in a privileged setting, with a large playground where all the staff has a wide experience and has the parents' confidence.
