From last Saturday, users will be able to walk along the six kilometres of the Mijas coastline

The Mijas First Deputy Mayor and Beaches Councillor, José Carlos Martín (Cs), announced that the three sections of the coastal path that have had to be completely remodelled as an emergency after the damage suffered by one of the storms, will be open to passers-by since last Saturday 26th. "Users can now walk along the six kilometres of this infrastructure where, in addition, we have been repairing the damage caused by the fall of a tree at the height of Riviera due to the strong wind and haze from last week. Everything is ready, though these are rainy days. We have already put an end to these works that leave us with a renovated path," said the Councillor, who added that "the Department will be watching the weather conditions at all times to act immediately".

The investment for this complete renovation has cost around 280,000 euros and took three months to complete. "The work has been extensive and at some points, we have had to dismantle the decking and the damaged foundations, as some of the piles were misaligned, and many of them were even completely broken", said Martín, who added that "other areas had the decking in a cantilevered position, remaining suspended, which is why they have been dismantled together with the railing, removing the foundations to be able to build it practically from scratch".

Thus, the three remodelled stretches have been Doña Lola, Océano Beach, and Calahonda Beach. These stretches were closed as a precaution and, at some points, temporary detours were set up during the works.

In the case of the first route, the urbanisation was also affected, so the glass railing was replaced and the retaining wall was repaired. Finally, the company awarded the contract, 'Rialsa',has placed breakwater protection to avoid and minimise future storm surges that could damage the infrastructure.

"The coastal path is one of our tourist attractions, as well as being a recurring meeting point for all Mijas people who enjoy the sea, nature, and sport while walking it," says the First Deputy Mayor who concludes by saying that "these works will be completed for Easter, the area continues with its preparation for the high season".
