The First Deputy Mayor and Tourism Councillor, José Carlos Martín (Cs), announced, this morning, the 2nd Tourist Sector Conference that will be held in the Mijas Town Hall plenary hall on 24th March, from 4:30 pm. On this occasion will focus on digital transformation in the tourism sector. Those interested in attending can register free until 22nd March, at www.fguma.es, by email: uma.provincia.mijas@fguma.es and by telephone on 951952734 or 639820914.

"The pandemic has made us realise the importance of digitalisation in all areas, but particularly in the tourism sector. The overall objective is to address this complex concept through debate and analysis from the point of view of destinations and companies. Besides, it aims to reflect on the future challenges and multidimensional cooperation," said the Councillor, who added that "the capacity is for 100 people and can be attended by all types of public, not just those in the tourism sector".

In this way, the forum will show how the health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on the tourism sector. From the digitalisation point of view, the pandemic has caused a great acceleration, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of the information implementation and communication technologies (ICT) in destinations and companies, especially in SMEs. It all has led to a reflection on the need for knowledge and correct information and communication technologies’ (ICT) application in the sector.

Competitive destinations
On the other hand, there will be a debate on the European digital strategy and the digital agenda 2025, which establish digital transition as a priority to increase the sector's productivity and competitiveness through digital technologies. The Spanish Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan is part of the national plans drawn up by the 27 EU Member States in the Next Generation EU Recovery Plan for Europe. This plan is structured around four cross-cutting axes: ecological transition, digital transition, gender equality and social and territorial cohesion, which will underpin the economic transformation as a whole, fully aligned with the EU's strategic agendas, the 2030 Agenda and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The second axis focuses on the digital transition and sets the roadmap to accelerate a humanistic and inclusive digital transition in Spain. Investments and reforms will boost the infrastructures, skills and technologies necessary for a digital economy and society. Tourism forms an important part of this axis.
