The Home Care Service attended to 538 people in 2021

  • Last year, the home carers spent 144,850 hours on this service, in which 1.5 million euros were invested
  • The Social Services Councillor, Hipólito Zapico, took stock of this service for people in a dependency situation.

The City Council's subsidised service attended 283 users, and 255 received the Dependency Law direct benefit

The Mijas Town Hall Social Services Department has taken stock of the Home Care Service. Throughout 2021, 538 users benefited from this service, 170 more than in December 2019, according to the responsible area Councillor, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE). Of the total, 283 received the concerted aid offered by the City Council, compared to 221 in 2019, while the direct beneficiaries of the Dependency Law of the Andalusian Regional Government were 255 in 2021, and there were 148 in 2019.

Social Services valued the concerted aid offered by the City Council while the user is waiting to receive the Dependency Law. "Unfortunately, these people in Andalusia have to wait more than 700 days, more than two years to join the Junta de Andalucía system. The Dependency Law direct system has the competence to provide this service," said Zapico, who explained that the Social Services have "delegated the part prior" to the direct aid granting "so that the Mijas citizens can be cared for, in the meantime, by the same service, but charged to the municipal budget," he added.

Zapico valued the effort made by municipal workers "to optimise human resources" and cover a greater number of beneficiaries in 2021. "On the Municipal part, an organisational effort has been made, in such a way, that the aid concerted plan procedures, application and acceptance times have been reduced. It has allowed us to incorporate more people into home care service," explained the Councillor.

145,000 service hours

This service is provided in people's homes to attend to people who are severely disabled or have a significant dependency due to age or other circumstances. The assistants spent 144,850 hours last year on this service, in which 1.5 million euros were invested. These workers mainly carry out tasks such as accompanying, personal care or home cleaning.

"For the Josele González Socialist Government, it is of paramount importance and a priority to attend to dependent people. We don't understand it any other way, what kind of society would we be if we didn't give the most helpless people the maximum help we could offer them?" Zapico concluded.
