CLC World Foundation donates 1,600 kilos of food and hygiene products to Ukraine

  • The Mijas Mayor, Josele González, is grateful for the solidarity of both the foundation and the Mijas people

The Mijas Town Hall has set up three spaces to receive material and food to help the Ukrainian people

Since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine on 24th February, many residents and Mijas associations have supported the Ukrainian people. Thus, the CLC World Foundation has donated more than a food ton to Ukraine through one of the three spaces set up by the Mijas Town Hall for the reception of material and food.

"There has been a massive contribution of 1,300 kilos of non-perishable food and between 200 and 300 kilos of hygiene products. Right now, from the foundation we are coordinating to send sanitary material to Ukraine", explained the foundation ambassador, Hernán Lara. In this sense, the Mayor of the city, Josele González (PSOE), wanted to "thank this entity that is always available to the Mijas needs. On this occasion, it has shown its solidarity with this cause that transcends our borders. In the same vein, he also wanted to thank "each of the companies that to a greater or lesser extent have given their help".

Just a few days ago, the City Council set up three spaces for all those who wanted to collaborate with those affected by the Russian invasion in Ukraine, which has already claimed the lives of more than 2,000 civilians in the country.  "In just 48 hours, we are having an overwhelming response. It is impressive not only the response of the Mijas citizens but also the neighbours' solidarity of other municipalities who have come to help by contributing medicines, clothes, necessities or non-perishable food," said Gonzalez.

Yesterday, according to the Mayor, "a first shipment already left for Ukraine". The objective, according to the City Council, is that all the merchandise remains in these spaces "for the shortest possible time". At the request of the Ukrainian Mijas residents' families, they are asking for "empty boxes to organise all the shipments", added the Mayor, who added that "in a matter of days, we will continue to collaborate with these families living in the town, as they are the ones who are guiding us in terms of the needs they are asking for from Ukraine".

González also wanted to "convey a message of assurance to all those who are thinking of making contributions and who are not sure that they will reach their destination. The three official points available to the City Council are perfectly coordinated with each other and with the families of the people who require such material. Therefore, it is the safest way for these donations to reach those who need them".

Where should I donate?

In the Cortijo Don Elías in Las Lagunas, which according to the Councillor, "due to its size, is being the main centre for goods, materials and food reception". Also, in Mijas Pueblo in Coín Street, 46; and a third one in La Cala de Mijas senior's home.

As for the opening hours, those interested can donate in Las Lagunas from 9 am to 7 pm from Monday to Sunday. In Mijas Pueblo from 9 am to 2 pm also from Monday to Sunday and from 9 am to 2 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm from Monday to Saturday at the La Cala senior's home.
