Every day that passes since Russia invaded Ukraine, the European country needs more aid. To ensure that it reaches its destination and to collect the products that the civilian population and soldiers need, Mijas Town Hall has decided to coordinate the entire operation and has appealed to the solidarity of the people of Mijas. “The City Council will coordinate the humanitarian aid that individuals, groups and entities want to send them to ensure that it is what Ukraine needs, that it reaches its destination and in an organised way,” said the Mijas Mayor, Josele González (PSOE). He visited on Wednesday 2nd Cortijo Don Elías, one of the points that have been established to receive the products donated in collaboration with Ukrainian families living in the town. Every day, from 9 am to 7 pm to deposit necessities, mainly medicines, canned food, personal hygiene products and blankets. All these will be sent to the Ukrainian border with Poland, from where they will be distributed among the Ukrainians.

Another point where donations can be dropped off is in Coín Street in Mijas Pueblo. Specifically, in local number 46, the products are collected from Monday to Sunday between 9 am and 2 pm. Besides, the Town Hall is studying other locations “throughout the municipality”, according to the Councillor, who explained that the opinions of the Ukrainians living in the town will always be taken into account: “The Town Hall is in close contact with the Ukrainian families living in Mijas who, in turn, are in contact with other entities that are organising humanitarian aid. In this way, we can coordinate and ensure that these aid groups, organisations and residents are organised and that it goes to those who need it. Every step we take, will be taken in close contact with the Ukrainian families” and “We will be in close contact with the Ukrainian families”.

In addition, the Mayor stressed that this is not the first time that, the municipality has supported a  war country: “Mijas is a town of solidarity, we always have been, and during the Bosnia war we took in, many families who are now part of our community of neighbours”.
