Afesol, the Association of Relatives and People with Mental Illness of the Costa del Sol, has received one of the Andalusia Flag awards, specifically the Andalusian Flag for Research, Science and Health (Bandera de Andalucía a la Investigación, la Ciencia y la Salud). Its president, Conchi Cuevas, stressed the importance of the award as it recognises, she says, "the work we have been doing with people with mental health problems for almost 23 years. I want to congratulate the great team that I work with, and at the same time, to highlight the board of directors' work and the extraordinary partners. We must continue working, and we will continue saying that with social and health support, these people can move forward, leading a fairly normal life. The employment issue is vital and a priority", emphasised Cuevas.  

The award is for its struggle, for more than 20 years, to improve the quality of life of people with mental illness and their relatives. We are a non-profit association founded in September 1999.

Flags of Andalusia

The Andalusian Regional Government presented ten solidarity awards in Malaga last Friday. The people and entities that received the Flags of Andalusia, in addition to AFESOL, were: Social Sciences and Literature to the Proteo Bookshop; Arts to the Interactive Museum of Music of Malaga (MIMMA); Sport to Antonio Benítez; Solidarity and Concord to Asprovelez, Economy and Business to Ly Company; Province Projection to the Sancho Melero Group; Environmental Merit to Reservatauro, Human Values to Teresa Retamero and finally, the Andalusian Flag in recognition of the trajectory of a natural or legal person, group or entity in the defence and promotion of the general interest of the province, to Adriano Vázquez.
