Mijas approved last Friday the Housing Rental Aid Ordinance modification. "This text is revised after the exponential increase in rent in our municipality," said the Social Services Councillor, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE) at the plenary session.

"We understood that after several years, it was necessary to review these criteria to adjust to the reality in our town. Thus, we have modified the census registration requirement from three to five years as we understand that we must favour people who live in Mijas longer," Zapico explained, "the IPREM has also been increased, concerning the previous one, so that people with a higher income can access. This increase represents a difference of almost 200 euros compared to the previous ordinance".

Another of the requirements to be modified is the rental price.  "This decision has been taken so that those families who have more members can access this aid. It is worth remembering that the several room home prices are usually much higher than single-family homes," added the Councillor.

Finally, this ordinance modification puts on the table the bank receipts requirement "to support the payment of these aids as anomalies were detected with the receipts presented by hand", asserts Zapico, who has highlighted the José González Government commitment to provide these aids with the largest possible budget. "We have gone from 8,000 euros, when there was not even an ordinance, in 2017, to 379,000 euros in 2019, and about half a million euros between 2020 and 2021".

The proposal, approved initially, has had the votes in favour of the entire corporation, except for the non-attached Councillor, Esperanza Jiménez, who has opted for abstention with the census criteria.
