The manifesto to be read, on the 8th March, on the International Women's Day occasion, has been approved. A text, defended by the Equality Councillor, Natalia Martínez (PSOE) which has been prepared by the Women's Centre and submitted to the Equality Commission, which is composed of Mijas political groups and trade unions: "Women are not a group, we are half of humanity. The inequality and oppression that we still suffer as we are women strikes directly at the heart of democracy and prevents the full development of our condition of citizenship".
Some of the women's problems highlighted in the text are precarious employment, wage gap, family and work reconciliation, glass ceiling, unshared responsibilities and male violence. For her part, Ciudadanos Councillor Mari Carmen González called for unity among women, especially in the workplace: "Most of us have witnessed and experienced situations in which women do not see a colleague as a collaborator, but as a rival, and that is a mistake we make".
For its part, the PP, unlike last year, voted in favour of the manifesto on this occasion. "The reading you have made is so forceful and so well formulated that we have nothing to add", responded the Popular spokesman, Ángel Nozal, to the Councillor Natalia Martínez, who minutes earlier asked the PP what their position would be on this occasion. Afterwards, he added, " I subscribe to the words said by the Ciudadanos colleague one by one".
Among the agreements reached, there is a commitment to continue implementing the Municipal Strategic Plan for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men. Also, to continue complying with the Gender Violence State Pact lines and working towards a more egalitarian society. Finally, the Mijas Mayor has invited the citizens to participate in the different institutional acts programmed on the 8M occasion.
