In 2021, Mijas Town Hall granted these social associations 40,000 and 60,000 euros, respectively

On Monday 21st February, the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the Social Services Councillor, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE), continued their round of meetings with local social groups. On this occasion, the meeting was to take stock of the aid received, last year, the Cudeca Foundation and the Mijas Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s Patients (AFAM).
The first meeting was with Cudeca, which during 2021 has helped 89 families in Mijas, through its in-home care team, something that the City Council valued. According to González, “in most cases, these families have received at Cudeca, the palliative care that they neither received from the public health system nor from other entities, so it is essential that the Town Hall supports this foundation financially every year”. In total, the group received a grant of 40,000 euros from the City Council, a figure that helps Cudeca to continue to provide end-of-life care for cancer patients and other illnesses. In addition, the foundation has a charity shop in La Cala which is a source of income and whose premises were donated by the Town Hall. “They have very interesting projects such as running a paediatric centre and, in some way, we want to continue to contribute to these associations,” said Zapico.

The round of meetings continues
And after the meeting with Cudeca, the Councillor and the Mayor also met last Monday, with the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer’s patients in Mijas. This association from Mijas, which has many years of history in our municipality, received from the City Council in 2021, an economic aid of 60,000 euros, and according to the Mayor “precisely, thanks to this day centre, to the care they provide ,many Mijas families can move forward, that is why these economic contributions that we make from the City Council are so important”.
These meeting rounds also serve to assess other projects and the groups’ needs. Regarding AFAM, Zapico explained, “in Mijas, they help around 25 people, and we contribute with 60,000 euros a year, for ordinary running costs. We are also talking to the group about the possibility of carrying out new projects or helping them with new circumstances that may arise and generate difficulties in the centre’s management”.
The fact is that the help offered by this group is fundamental, above all, for the patients’ relatives, as they are the ones who need support to care for them.
