Mijas prepares to celebrate the Carnival after last year's pandemic break

  • The Fiestas Department has prepared a big celebration with children's games, performances and fancy dress competitions
  • The Fiestas Department Councillor, Tamara Vera (PSOE), who presented a colourful poster.

The party will start in Mijas Pueblo on Sunday 20th. It will continue on the 26th and 27th of February, in La Cala and Las Lagunas, respectively

After last year's pandemic Carnival break, Mijas is getting ready to celebrate the Mijas Carnival 2022. It was confirmed this morning by the Fiestas Department Councillor, Tamara Vera (PSOE), who presented a colourful poster, with many activities for young and old and, above all, with great enthusiasm to resume this festival that locals love so much.

"It is a long-awaited Carnival for the Mijas people, although it is true that we will not be able to celebrate in full due to the current pandemic. This year, we are going to hold a Carnival focused on the little ones, who are going to be the main festivities’ protagonists," explained Vera.

So, start thinking about your Carnival costume now, because, this year, we will be able to celebrate the festival, although with some new features. According to the Fiestas Councillor, this year 2022, there will be no traditional parade, but there will be a party with children's entertainment designed for the enjoyment of the little ones. The Carnival will take place, in Mijas, on three different days, and in three different municipality centres.

Carnival dates

The Carnival will start in Mijas Pueblo, on Sunday, 20th February, and will continue on 26th and 27th February, in La Cala and Las Lagunas respectively. In all three cases from noon to 5 pm. And there will be no shortage of quality performances at the Mijas Carnival 2022. "There will be Malaga comparsas and chirigotas from Cadiz.  The comparsa 'Aquellas noches de julio' by Maxi and Juani and the chirigota of El Vera 'Los Hinchapelotas'' from Cadiz and the murga of the Chinese Lucifer", specified Vera.

At the Carnival party, in the three centres, there will be games and entertainment for the whole family and the traditional fancy dress competition will be held, both for children and adults. The prizes will be a surprise, although there is already some advance notice. "There will be prizes ranging from electronic devices for the youngest children, to getaways in rural houses for adult groups," said Vera, among other surprises. The Councillor made an invitation, "to our mijeños and mijeñas to join so that we can see our colourful municipality shine again in the Carnival".

Party locations

Finally, Vera highlighted the change of location in Las Lagunas, "this year, the location will be the fairgrounds instead of the parks, seeking to make the party in a more open and larger place. Likewise, in La Cala, the party will be held at the Boulevard Square and in Mijas Pueblo, the location will, once again, be the Virgen de la Peña Square. The Councillor concluded that the parties are awaited "with great enthusiasm" and that they will be marked by the health measures.
