The Mijas Mayor, Josele González (PSOE), the First Deputy Mayor and the Infrastructures and Works Councillor, José Carlos Martín (Cs), and the Town Planning Councillor, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), received, this morning, the President of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, José Antonio Mena, and the Infrastructures delegate, Juan Olea, for an informative meeting in which they have been given an account of the Investment Plans Mancomunados for the year 2022, in the Mijas municipality, for which they reserved a cash allocation of 1,269,266 euros. "These are a series of actions that will improve tourism infrastructure, sustainability, energy efficiency and our municipality environment," said Gonzalez, who is also Vice President of the supra-municipal entity.
"These are projects that are of special interest to the municipality, in addition to others that we are developing in the municipal section, as in Mijas we are doing many actions and activities of all kinds. We are happy with this one, which comes from the organization we are part of as Mancomunidad and, we are at your disposal to continue supporting such initiatives," added González, who stressed the importance of the Mijas municipality "not only for its population, with more than 91,000 people registered on the census, but also because of its projected growth in different areas and, in particular, in infrastructures".
Three projects
Specifically, there are three projects: one is aimed, at the Molino de Viento street, in El Juncal, "where energy efficiency will be improved, the containers will be underground and the separative network will be made. All this will improve the citizens' life quality. The second is related to the Mijas coastline improvement with the beaches materials' supply, such as wooden walkways, areas for people with reduced mobility or access to the bathrooms. Finally, the third project is related to a work vehicle purchase to improve the beaches' conditions, too," said Martin.
Joint Investment Plans
The Joint Investment Plans (PIM) are the result of the remainder of this body's budget and will distribute 9.5 million euros among the 11 municipalities that belong to this supra-municipal body, according to Mena, "the municipalities have endured major changes and have been severely affected by the pandemic, so it is necessary to provide them with as much support as possible to revitalise a social, economic and tourist environment that has weakened significantly".
The projects, they say, will be put out to tender, by Mancomunidad itself this year. Most of them can be executed before the summer, although it envisages work with a completion period by the end of 2023. This investment plan will also, Ruiz stressed, "boost the Costa del Sol economy because we are improving the municipalities from a tourist point of view, but we are also exercising a social function by generating wealth and employment in the municipalities. It has been one of the core elements that led us to allocate almost ten million euros to these types of works and infrastructures".
Depending on needs, these investments will be in areas such as the integral urban water cycle, solid urban waste management, town planning, beaches, urban environment, environmental prevention and reforestation in public forests, tourism and the purchase of vehicles and machinery for municipal public services. For his part, Olea pointed out that "the projects will be put out to tender by the Mancomunidad de Municipios" and that "the deadline for implementation is set out in the Investment Plan itself, with the most important ones to be implemented by 2023". In total, the Mancomunidad de Municipios will allocate almost 9.5 million euros for the PIM 2022 execution. "This plan helps to generate employment and wealth in the 11 municipalities of Mancomunidad and is a lifeline for local businesses," concludes Ruiz.
