From 1st to 15th February, these car parks can be requested, with preference given to registered residents, prioritising the 400 square metre zone of influence

The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Works and Facilities and Energy Management, José Carlos Martín, has announced that from tomorrow, until 15th February, the deadline for applying for rental spaces in the new car park at La Candelaria will be open. "Soon, we will be launching this facility, which will become the largest car park in the municipality. An infrastructure that comes to solve the parking problems in Las Lagunas, and that will be essential for the revival of trade and tourism," said Martin. He pointed out that "those interested have 15 days to apply for these parking spaces, to which preference is given to those registered in the municipality. The area of influence of 400 square metres around the premises will be prioritised".

Entrepreneurs, who have their business in this area, will also be eligible as long as they meet the requirements. The Councillor detailed that "of the 506 parking spaces, 300 will be set aside for this purpose for 50 euros per month and the rest for rotation".

Thus, the procedure can be carried out, on the one hand, online, making the application through the Electronic Registry of the Mijas Town Hall link (for which identification and an electronic signature is required) or, on the other hand, in person at the entrance of the Citizen's Attention desk of the Town Hall or any of the Mayor's Offices as well as in the registries of other public administrations.

  • A large leisure and recreation area has been created on the surface for residents

Presentation of applications

Residents must present the completed, signed and registered application form, census registration certificate, ID card, ownership of the light vehicle (vehicle registration certificate), proof of payment of the last Mechanical Traction Tax (Impuesto de Tracción Mecánica) and payment of the last car insurance bill. In the case of businesses, legal persons must accompany their application with a copy of the articles of association, NIF card and powers of representation of the natural person making the application on their behalf. Owners of economic and professional activities, both natural and legal persons, must provide documentation proving their connection with the property located within the area of influence of the car park.

Citizens having any doubts can contact the Town Hall and the Mayor's Offices through Citizen's Attention, by telephone on 952 485 900 between 9 am and 2 pm, by email (aparcamientos@mijas.es) and can also consult all the information posted on the municipal website www.mijas.es.

"We are following our roadmap to provide this service to the municipality. We committed six years ago with our Municipal Parking Plan, which we are fulfilling to put an end to this historic demand from residents. The El Juncal car park is already up and running, and very soon, this one will be ready. It will mean a before and after, in the quality of life of the residents", asserts Martín.

The largest car park in Mijas

The new car park of La Candelaria has meant an investment of nearly 8 million euros from the Mijas municipal treasury and has a total of 506 underground parking spaces spread over four floors and a surface area of 15,000 square metres. Besides, the facilities do not include architectural barriers and have the implementation of lifts. The car park has special width parking spaces with 5 metres long, 2.40 metres wide and 1.20 metres of approach area for people with reduced mobility.

"A large leisure and recreation area has been created on the surface for residents, especially for children, who will be able to enjoy a modern and safe play area that revitalises the zone and provides it with a new family meeting point", adds Martín, who concludes by reminding us that "with the opening of La Candelaria, together with El Juncal, a total of 668 parking spaces are put into service in Las Lagunas, to which we will gradually add those of the other car parks that we are building".

In this regard, it should be noted that the Infrastructure and Works Department has already drafted the projects for three new car parks in Las Lagunas centre. Specifically, those to be located in Fernán Caballero Park, Andalusia Park and in the Los Santos neighbourhood, which will add 1,252 more spaces to Las Lagunas.
