The Solidarity Tables of the Foreigners Department are back with a new collective

  • The last Wednesdays and Saturdays of each month, they raise funds in La Cala

At the moment, nine groups are participating in the solidarity initiative

Foreign and national collectives, once again, have the opportunity to make themselves known and raise funds in the project "Solidarity Tables" from the Foreigners Department, which has resumed with the new year. In addition, a new group, Diksha España, has joined the project to support children's education in India.

This solidarity event with national and international associations will continue in the new year. An initiative of the Foreigners Department that has been running, for more than a year, now, to help these groups. According to Katja Thirion, a technician in this municipal area, "the initiative has been running for more than a year now, and came about after the first waves of the pandemic, as the groups were unable to hold events and activities to raise funds. This way, at least, they get some funding from the tables".

At the moment, nine groups are participating in the solidarity initiative, including Mijas Felina, Age Concern, Club de Leones de La Cala, Cáritas, ACE and Donkey Dreamland. Patricia Reynolds, from the FAMA Federation of Animal Aid, stated that "we need a lot of money for the vets, as all the animals need care, they are old and some are sick. They need food, care and also veterinary services".

New collective
In 2022, a new collective, Diksha Spain, joins Diksha for education and a better future for the children of Rajasthan India. An NGO that has been working in the area for more than 100 years with its volunteer programme. It also develops a monthly child sponsorship project. Dora Buil explained to all those who approached her table the objective of her Association: "We work, as volunteers, to give education and teaching to children who are stranded on the streets. The situation is very hard there, with a lot of poverty, and we want to give these children a future, education and schooling".

Next Wednesday, the day that was not held the previous week due to bad weather, will be resumed. These solidarity tables will be held, on the last Wednesdays and Saturdays, of the month, until the end of May, from 11 am to 2 pm.
