Mijas presents its tourism offer in Fitur

  • Andalusia expects to receive 26 million tourists this year, and the full rescue in 2023

La Zambra Hotel will provide Mijas with a new 5 star luxury hotel accommodation |

The municipality is committed to promoting luxury tourism, golf as a segment to break seasonality and traditions during its visit to Madrid

Mijas presented its new tourism promotion campaign on Thursday 20th at the International Tourism Fair in Madrid. The Mayor Josele González (PSOE) and the Councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), were in charge of announcing the new developments in tourism in our municipality. These new developments include the development of the new hotel La Zambra. During the presentation, which took place at the Costa del Sol stand, the Mayor explained that the refurbishment of the former Byblos hotel will allow Mijas to have a new five-star luxury hotel with almost 200 rooms. An investment of more than 20 million euros has been earmarked for the complete refurbishment work. “Mijas is going to return to the constellation of five-star luxury hotels, from which it should never have left. We are going to place ourselves at the same level as the large municipalities that already work with this type of offer, such as the capital or Marbella,” said the Councillor.
For his part, the Councillor for Tourism valued that this new hotel, managed by Marugal, will take our municipality to another quality level and its main economic activity, tourism. “We have to work to enhance the excellence of our tourist segments, which are sustainable, respectful to the environment and, above all, that generate wealth and employment, reverting to the people of Mijas,” said Martin. The rehabilitation of the former Byblos hotel, which is expected to open its doors at the end of June, is accompanied by an ambitious project of regeneration of all its surroundings, as indicated by the Councillor for Urbanism, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), giving us an example “the extension of the Camino de Campanales, the improvement works of the Camino de Coín or the extension of the avenue AMPA Las Caracolas”.

Mijas, Sun & Golf
Another of the tourist actions presented in Madrid was the new brand ‘Mijas, Sol & Golf’, created a few months ago in collaboration with the 12 golf courses in the municipality. It is a joint venture between the Town Hall and the private sector with a single objective: to position Mijas as one of the best destinations for this sport. “It has been a milestone because bringing the 12 golf courses together was fundamental and, with the mediation of the Town Hall, we have managed to promote this brand, which we understood was an essential step to continue advancing in this tourist offer,” said the Mayor of Mijas.

Other segments
The presentation of the Mijas campaign ended with images of the Mijas Easter Week, which “is becoming more and more important every year in the three centres and is a clear commitment to the recovery of unique traditions, which transcend religious and cultural aspects,” concluded the Mayor.

Hotel La Zambra
Mijas will once again have a five-star hotel by the end of June 2022. One of the flagships of great luxury on the Costa del Sol, the Hotel Byblos Andaluz, will reopen its doors as La Zambra. Located on a small hill between two 18-hole golf courses, it is the perfect ally to continue promoting one of the most important quality tourist segments of the city, with its brand: Mijas, Sun, and Golf. In addition, its location will allow guests to enjoy its proximity to other major tourist attractions that Mijas offers the world, such as a stroll through the village or the mountains, a trip to the coast to enjoy the beach, or a walk along the coastal path.

Easter week
The Mijas Town Hall is confident that this year’s Easter Week will be, if the pandemic allows it, the start of the tourist recovery. The idiosyncrasy of the Passion Week in Mijas, in its three centres, is still a tourist attraction that has been promoted at Fitur, along with other segments such as sun and beach, hiking trails, gastronomy and crafts.

Mijas Sun & Golf
The aim is to attract quality tourism, which generates a high economic impact and boosts the tourism sector in the low season. To this end, in consensus with the 12 Mijas golf courses, a descriptive, easily identifiable naming has been chosen, focused on the sun, the south, the Costa del Sol, and, of course, golf. The chosen image focuses on transmitting the experience of enjoying Mijas as a golf destination and the advantages it has over other similar destinations with the added bonus of location, climate, and all that the south provides.
