Work on the road safety park is progressing at a good pace in Las Lagunas

  • The Town Council's Department of Works and Infrastructures assures that the work could be completed by mid-February
  • The government team says that the park will open its doors in the middle of next month, as long as the weather is fine.

The investment made amounts to 730,000 euros

Very soon, the residents of Las Lagunas will have a new children's playground. Its main theme will be road safety. "This park will have a double function, on the one hand it will be a recreational area for the residents, where they will be able to walk and enjoy themselves. It will have benches. On the other hand, children will learn about road safety by playing in this park. Besides, they will learn the traffic signs, the road rules, which in the end, will be useful for their day to day, whether from the point of view of pedestrians or drivers", declared the Councillor for Works and Infrastructures, José Carlos Martín (Cs).

The new recreational area covers an area of 2,700 square metres located in the Plaza Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente between Avenida de Dinamarca and Calle Ciprés, said Martín: "It is a park that is going to be added to all the green areas that the municipality has, and as it is in an urban area, such as Las Lagunas, where these spaces are scarce, it will mean a leap in quality for the residents of the area and of Mijas, to have this park," added the Councillor.

Martín explained that "the new park will have both horizontal and vertical road signs as well as streets, roundabouts and all the elements that exist in daily traffic, also simulating with asphalt the paving of any city".

In this sense, it should be noted that children will be able to use any type of vehicle or toy inside the park, as the important thing is their learning and the use of the necessary tools. The road space is enclosed and dedicated exclusively to children. Moreover, the rest of the space will have a recreation area with benches, lighting and vertical planters that will help to integrate the park into the area creating a pleasant atmosphere.

The government team says that the park will open its doors in the middle of next month, as long as the weather is fine. "We are talking about an important action, which has a deadline of three months and by mid-February, if all goes well, it will be finished," said Martin.

The investment made by Mijas Town Hall in the construction of this road safety park amounts to 730,000 euros. "We continue in the same line of work of the last six years, where from the area of Infrastructure and Works, we have opted for the commissioning of parks and recreational areas of great importance to the municipality as the Water Park, La Cala Hills, El encuentro, Calistenia, Olisol, El Hipódromo, El Limonar or the dog parks located in the Ensanche de La Cala and Sector 31 in Las Lagunas, without forgetting that the project for the Gran Parque de la Costa del Sol has already been drawn up, which will become the largest park in Andalusia", concludes Martín.
