The association, Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui de Mijas, has been collaborating with this cause for more than two decades

Once again this year, the CLC World Foundation is collaborating with the association Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui de Mijas with a donation destined to the Caravan for peace and humanitarian aid that will soon leave for the Sahara. In total, this year the organisation has donated just over 400 kilos of non-perishable foodstuffs. "It is an initiative that we have been doing for several years now, and this time, although we have done it in a less participatory way because of the pandemic situation we are experiencing, we are doing it with the same intention. Intending to bring non-perishable food to the Sahrawi people, which we collect throughout the year and accumulate it for this special day", explained the ambassador of the foundation, Hernán Lara.

The donation took place this morning at the Los Perales industrial estate in Las Lagunas, where the staff of Mijas Servicios Complementarios helped with the shipment. "I would like to thank CLC World who collaborate with our association every year. And to all the people who, after so many years in the fight, continue to support this cause", said the President of the association in Mijas, Mari Carmen Cortés.

For her part, the Councillor for Citizen Participation of Mijas Town Hall, Tamara Vera (PSOE), who also attended the presentation, appreciated the gesture of solidarity of CLC World. "Even though these are difficult times for everyone, for individuals and also for companies, the CLC World Foundation is once again collaborating with this cause and we have to thank them for their gesture". The Councillor also praised the struggle of the association Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui: "And my thanks also to the association Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui de Mijas, which has been fighting for 20 years. I always say that they are like little ants that little by little are building, to finally reach their great goal and we are grateful for all the work they have been doing year after year".

Caravan for Peace
The Caravan for Peace is a humanitarian aid campaign that is being carried out at an Andalusian level. The campaign is still open for those who want to collaborate, in the case of Malaga province, donating especially rice, sugar and oil. The humanitarian aid caravan is expected to leave for the Sahara in February or March. Mijas has been collaborating with this cause for 20 years, so "we want to thank all the people and entities that collaborate. And to demand from here that the national government takes an interest in these brotherly people", added the President.

"For our part, with the best of intentions, we will repeat this donation next year, always on this same date. From CLC World we will continue with our work to continue supporting the groups that need it most," added Lara.

The Saharawi people
Concerning the situation of the Saharawi people, Cortes said that "we as an association are obliged to continue collecting food, seeing that, although we are going through a crisis, we understand that we can not leave them abandoned. They have been like this for more than 40 years. From the association, we have been collaborating in Mijas for more than 20 years. But apart from food, this is also moral support that we give to the Saharawi people", stressed the President.  "In fact, the Saharawis should have their autonomy. There should be a referendum on self-determination, which is so necessary so that they are free to choose their independence, their freedom and go to their village to live and stop being in a camp at the expense of us sending them food. It's a bit sad, but that's the reality," Cortés said.
