Many of them choose Mijas for its facilities, climate and its tourist and leisure offer. It is the third year that they have repeated this experience

More than 56 teams from the Netherlands, 2,500 athletes, as well as fifty members of the organisation such as guides, assistants and referees, are preparing on the Costa del Sol for their return to their respective leagues, which are now at a standstill due to the harsh winter. "This is the third year that this initiative has been carried out and it will continue, every year more and more teams choose the Costa del Sol and Mijas, in particular, to continue their preparation," said the Councillor for Sports, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), who added that in a normal situation, without a pandemic, "they organise matches and even bring the public".

Between Mijas and Málaga city they host all these clubs. With the help of a travel agency specialising in sports tourism, these teams have the opportunity to prepare for their return to competition on pitches such as the municipal Osunillas de Mijas Pueblo, where DSV Full Speed have been training. "We have been working with the Dutch for the last four seasons, and in particular this pitch is very popular, it is in very good condition, because of the sun in the stands and every year they ask for it," said the manager of Quality Tourism & Sport, Jacco Van der Woude.

"The facilities we have in Osunillas are quite good and fit the profile they are looking for, where everything is close by," said Ruiz, who pointed out that "they take care of the facilities and recycle everything they use, leaving them in perfect condition".

Mijas as a destination, not only offers the player the possibility of exercising in quality facilities in a friendly climate like ours in the middle of winter, but also has a lot to offer from a tourist point of view. "It is an opportunity to boost the local economy, to fight against seasonality and, in the end, what we are doing is promoting sports tourism. Many of them are travelling, staying in hotels, consuming in our businesses and it is an opportunity for them to get to know our municipality," said the Councillor for Sports.

In this sense, Van der Woude stressed that during their free time the players "do other types of activities, such as bike tours in Malaga, eat, visit Mijas and its donkey taxis, that's the good thing about the amateurs, they spend a lot of money outside the sports program, plus their stay is an ideal advertisement for them to come with their families to enjoy the summer in Mijas and the Costa del Sol," said the manager of Quality Tourism & Sport.

This morning in the Municipal de Osunillas, the DSV Full Speed has been exercising.
