Mijas began last Monday 10th, the emergency repair of three sections of the coastal path affected by the storm in November. Those correspond to Doña Lola urbanisation, Calahonda and the Ocean Hotel.
The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Beaches and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), explained that this is an important action both for the economic amount and for its technical difficulty. "We have processed an emergency file because the actions are important since all the foundations and piles were carried away by the storm and eliminated the protections. In the Doña Lola urbanisation, it also swept away the protection wall that the community had," said the Councillor, who quantified the investment in these works at 280,000 euros.

Part of the work is being carried out by Mijas Town Hall's own Operational Services Department, of which Martín is also the delegate Councillor, and another part has had to go out to tender due to the scale of the works, which have a completion period of three months. "It is an important work because the foundations have to be re-laid with piles and the protection has to be carried out with breakwater," the Councillor explained.

Sections closed

Weather permitting, the work should be completed by Easter. The Council apologises for any inconvenience that may cause until then, as the sections repaired will be removed and reinstalled. It will prevent traffic from travelling along for the duration of the work.

These tasks are to the maintenance of this important tourist attraction, where wood paint has recently been applied on approximately four kilometres of the coastal path.
