The plan to install intelligent pedestrian crossings is 80% completed

  • A total of nine crossings have been installed, six in Las Lagunas and three in La Cala
  • By the end of the year, Mijas will have a total of eleven intelligent pedestrian crossings in the municipality.

These actions will improve road safety at night, and in adverse weather conditions

The government team assures that the municipal plan for the installation of intelligent pedestrian crossings is 80% complete. Yesterday afternoon, the Councillor for Operational Services, José Carlos Martín (Cs), visited the new crossing installed in the Sector 31 area, on Avenida Miguel Hernández in Las Lagunas. "This is an improvement in road safety, as this is a busy avenue, both for pedestrians and vehicles, especially at night and when it rains, and these intelligent crossings improve the visibility of people passing through," said Martín.

The residents of the area are grateful for this type of action. "It is one of the things we have been demanding for a long time as it is a street where people pass constantly, there are schools nearby, many businesses, and we are happy to have them", said Rosario Cortés, President of the María Zambrano-Sector 31 Neighbourhood Association, who also pointed out that they would like "to have a speedometer".

By the end of the year, Mijas will have a total of eleven intelligent pedestrian crossings in the municipality, in addition to the two existing ones, three new ones have been installed in La Cala de Mijas and six in Las Lagunas. "We have two in La Cala de Mijas Mayor´s Office, another in the Butibamba area, in Las Lagunas, in María Zambrano and Mijas avenues, two in Doña Ermita, and another one in Los Santos area which is, in addition to two others that had already been installed previously in the area around Virgen de la Peña school and in Las Lagunas Sports Complex, which is now out of work due to the works," Martín pointed out.

These pedestrian crossings, which are illuminated horizontally and vertically, will be installed in other parts of the municipality in the future, according to the government team.
