The companies RavenPack and Exploramás collaborate with the City Council in the creation of this urban forest

The councillors for the Environment and Parks and Gardens, Arancha López (Cs) and Laura Moreno (PSOE), respectively, took part on Wednesday 1 in the planting of a new urban forest in the town, this time consisting of 400 indigenous trees in the area of Calle Doma and the surroundings of the Mijas Racecourse. “From the department, we continue with our commitment to creating this type of space as CO2 sinks. We have managed to get an international company to donate 5,000 euros for an NGO to look after them for the first two years, so essential for the development of these species and their growth”, said López, who added that “the Town Hall has installed the irrigation system and has previously prepared the holes for the planting, in which 150 people have participated”.
For his part, Moreno praised “the synergy between the municipal nursery and the Environment Department to implement these initiatives that, with our means, in this case, the cork oaks, make us improve our natural environment day by day” to which he wanted to add “thanks to the company Exploramás from Mijas for their involvement in this type of reforestation”.
Day of coexistence

Through this entity, the international company RavenPack has donated in addition to making its employees available to the municipality to carry out a beneficial activity for the environment in a day of work together after the pandemic. “We are pioneers in artificial intelligence and big data and today we are here with colleagues from 30 different countries to meet again after two years of isolation teleworking and, in turn, contribute to the creation of this urban forest,” said Armando Gonzalez, head of Raven Pack. Finally, Manuel Araujo, on behalf of Exploramás, thanked the City Council for its commitment and highlighted “the ten years that his company has been promoting this type of reforestation”.

More life for El Puerto de la Gitana

Mijas experienced on Sunday 28th a day of repopulation of native trees in Entrerríos, specifically in the Puerto de la Gitana. During the activity, organised by WWF in collaboration with the Town Hall, the participants planted around 150 seedlings donated from the municipal nursery.
“This is the tenth year of this campaign, which is carried out throughout the country with local groups of volunteers from the organisation and thanks to collaborating entities such as the Town Hall”, explained the coordinator of campaigns with volunteers, Miguel Murcia. The WWF is an organisation that is responsible for the conservation of nature in all types of ecosystems and also has a climate and energy programme with food. On the other hand, the coordinator of the local group of volunteers in Malaga, Juan Perez, said that “the aim is to help those areas that were affected by the two fires it suffered to help plant in this area and then see that, little by little, those seedlings that you have helped to grow, go forward”.
These reforestations are the result of the collaboration agreement signed in 2015 following the fires of 2011 and 2012, and to make the planting possible, the department’s technician, Juan Luis Vega, explained that it is essential “to know the state of last year’s plantations to see which ones are still alive and which ones are not. We have been surprised because most of them are still alive”. The species chosen have been cork oaks, wild olive trees and carob trees.
