After two years, the Town Hall of Mijas invited all volunteers from the Civil Protection Group to a gala dinner to thank them for their dedication and enormous altruistic work. “They all carry out a selfless work, sacrificing their time to help others; in the past two years they have been a cornerstone in the development of security activities, compliance with Covid-19 recommended preventative measures, always present at all cultural and leisure events celebrated in the municipality or giving a helping hand in environmental disasters, such as the Filomena storm and the fire in Sierra Bermeja”, says the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE).

For her part, Tamara Vera (PSOE), Councillor for Civil Protection in Mijas, highlighted that “when the pandemic started our volunteers from the Civil Protection Group never doubted, not even for a second, to be out on the streets, working and collaborating with us in every single action that was taken”.

Recognitions

During the gala dinner, held at Club Cerrado del Aguila last Friday, November 26th, a video production was shown with volunteers from Civil Protection explaining their reasons for joining the group, their experiences and daily work. The video showed pictures of the different actions carried out throughout the last two years. “Our Civll Protection Group and its volunteers are an example to be followed throughout Málaga province, we have a very professional team, well managed and always willing to keep growing”, highlighted the Mayor.

These volunteers receive ongoing training to make sure they are fully equipped to fulfil their tasks.

Anyone wishing to join the Civil Protection Group as volunteer must be over 18 and fill up an application at any municipal office.
