The details are being finalised for Christmas to shine in Mijas, taking into account "the complexity that this entails in our town, in which we have three quite extensive and large population centres, which implies a large number of people working during these days", said Tamara Vera (PSOE), Councillor for Fiestas at Mijas Town Hall this Tuesday.
This year, the party to switch on the Christmas lights will take place in Virgen de la Peña Square in Mijas Pueblo this Sunday, 5th December, from 5:00 pm, so "I invite everyone to come to this point, where there will be entertainment for children and adults, with an ice rink, hot chocolate and a flamenco zambomba by singers Sebastián Nava, José el Petro, Juanjo Lavado, Enrique Heredia, Doly Pérez and the Coro Unión del Cante. Paco Aragón, Enrique Heredias and Diego Morilla will be on guitar and Tatiana will be on stage as a dancer, while M. Ángel Roja will be on cajón", explained the Councillor. The lighting will be inaugurated at 6:30 pm.
The square is decorated in a special way for this occasion. "I think it is going to look spectacular," said Vera, who added that "the three centres of Mijas will also shine during the festivities, "both in Las Lagunas and in La Cala, the Christmas lighting work is concluding and there will be emblematic spots to go and take some photos to remember; we will light up the main avenues and those meeting places, such as the boulevard in La Cala or the María Zambrano, Andalucía or Fernán Caballero parks in Las Lagunas".
This will be the starting signal for Christmas in Mijas 2021, in which, it seems, we are going to recover normality, but, given the situation in which we are still immersed, "we cannot forget about respect and precaution, therefore, in all the activities that we will carry out by the Town Hall we will continue to implement the safety measures recommended by the health authorities; we will continue to be cautious when it comes to putting them in place".
With these initiatives, the Council also aims to boost the local economy and support the traders of Mijas, "a help that they have been asking us for and we are going to do it," concluded Vera, who hopes that these festivities will be enjoyable for friends and family.
