The Department of Environment of the Town Hall reminds that no garden waste or polluting residues may be burnt

After the end of the high fire risk period on the 1st of November, the Environment Department announced that the residents of Mijas can now proceed with the burning of stubble. However, as long as it is agricultural waste and not garden waste or polluting residues. "From the department," said the mayor of the branch, Arancha Lopez (Cs), "we recommend looking for other less harmful options for both the planet and for our own health, because when burning is done, the resulting smoke is polluting and there are other types of alternative treatments such as crushing or composting. The Town Hall also reminds us that there is a "very dry climate", added López, "so if we can avoid burning stubble, we would avoid possible fires".
Thus, the intention of Mijas Fire Department is to inform residents, always bearing in mind the risk of fire, of a series of rules to take into account: "First of all," explained the sub-officer of the municipal fire brigade, Francisco Manuel Mérida, "inform the Fire Department [in the park itself], in the tenancies of La Cala or Las Lagunas, in the Town Hall itself or through the website of the Department of the Environment". They also stressed that the burning can be carried out from Monday to Saturday from 8am to 4pm and that inspections will be intensified in urban areas and around schools.
To report the burning can also be done through the Mijas Fire Department telephone number (952 58 63 12) and that "remember the emergency telephone number (952 58 63 82) only for emergencies to avoid this line being busy," said Mérida.
