Under the slogan ‘Sun and Golf’, Mijas became on Thursday the 14th the first Andalusian municipality to have its own golf brand that includes its twelve courses in a public-private partnership to relaunch the destination and position it at the head of this sport internationally.
The event was chaired by the mayor of the city, Josele González (PSOE), as well as by the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), and the delegate of the branch of the Regional Government of Andalusia in Malaga, Nuria Rodríguez, and it was attended by representatives of the tourism sector.
“Today we are taking another step to consolidate our city as a benchmark for tourism excellence thanks to the creation of this unique and exclusive golf brand that also arrives after months of working with professionals in the sector in what is an example of public-private collaboration, fundamental in sectors such as tourism”, said the mayor, who insisted on how “there are many and very diverse tourist attractions that our town has to offer: 12 golf courses, a historic-artistic complex, an area of artisan interest and a ZEC area of special conservation, are just some of the attractions that in recent years we have been promoting in our town after taking a step forward in planning and promoting Mijas with the creation of various strategic action and marketing plans that are offering great results for the projection and tourist promotion of Mijas in the short, medium and long term. In this line of work, therefore, the creation of a unique brand that values the importance of a sector such as golf could not be absent, so that we promote the arrival of tourists 365 days a year”.
Consensus election
“We are talking about a brand with which we are all comfortable and that represents everyone because it has been the result of consensus and participation. This hallmark is a symbol of the quality that we offer in Mijas because behind it are the best golf courses in the world with professionals in the sector with extensive professional experience who, in addition, have known how to overcome difficulties”, pointed out Martín , who added that the department’s commitment to this segment is due, especially, to “it being a way of breaking the seasonality with this sport, the sustainability that it implies by being integrated in nature and outdoors, the quality tourism that it generates with visitor profiles with a high economic impact in the city as well as the media impact, since it is a very followed activity internationally and, in Spain, it is the third sport in number of federated members”.
For her part, the territorial delegate for Tourism of the Board in Malaga valued “the importance of having a unified and attractive image to be able to market the Mijas destination among lovers of this sport”.
“The golf segment, within sports tourism, is tremendously interesting for Andalusia and for the province of Malaga, therefore, it is one of the great targets for the Council led by Juan Marín. This is a type of visitor that helps to advance in the seasonal adjustment, because thanks to our climate and our unique and quality infrastructures it is possible to enjoy golf throughout the year”, assured Rodríguez.
