Mijas renews the damaged railings along the coastal path

  • The works have a budget of 80,000 euros and an execution period of approximately 3 months
  • Works are currently taking place outside restaurant El Océano.

Municipal beach operators are replacing six kilometres of handrails, in addition to painting all the railings

Taking advantage of the drop in the influx of tourists, the Department for Beaches of the Mijas Town Hall is renovating the sections of the Coastal Path most deteriorated through the passage of time. Among the tasks, some six kilometres of handrails are being replaced, in addition to painting all the railings.

The works, which are currently being undertaken at the El Océano restaurant, will continue for the next three months, with an investment of 80,000 euros. “This amount includes the cost of the handrails, which are brand new, as well as the painting of the entire railing and, obviously, the labor required to do so. This is carried out by the staff of the Beach Department and we are working at a work rate of about 150 linear metres per day”, explained councillor, José Carlos Martín (Cs).

Works are currently taking place outside restaurant El Océano.
According Martín, the infrastructure of the Coastal Path Litoral requires a large amount of maintenance, to the extent that the wood is treated with specific products to prevent wear.

However, the proximity to the sea sometimes forces having to replace some of the sections, said Martín, “and, in this case, we have understood that the most cost-efficient thing to do was to change these six kilometres of handrails because, in some areas, the wood had many gaps and cracks, and the product would not work to repair it”.
The Beach department hopes to complete this task before the end of the year.
