The Maintenance Plan for the Horizontal and Vertical Signposting of public roads, promoted by the Mijas City Council, is 62% completed this year. This was confirmed last Wednesday, September 15th, by the councillor for Operative Services, José Carlos Martín (Cs), who also explained that “an external company is in charge of this conservation programme as a complement to the tasks that municipal painting workers usually carry out”.

According to the councillor, it is a contract that came into force in June and has a duration and a global investment of 750,000 euros. “This means that annually we have 187,000 euros to develop improvements in public roads, which seek the safety of pedestrians and vehicles”, said Martín.
Since this municipal plan was promoted, three months ago, action has been taken on almost twenty streets in the three nuclei, including the Valtocado road from the A-387, the Paseo Costa del Sol or the Miguel Hernández avenue, recently expanded. “These tasks are carried out at night, as far as possible, to avoid inconvenience among the citizens”, said the councillor.

Upcoming jobs

Until the end of December, new actions are contemplated in different streets of Mijas Pueblo, which, Martín announced, will renew their asphalt, as well as in the surroundings of La Cala Golf.

These works contribute to improving lighting or including new intelligent pedestrian crossings to try to “avoid accidents or unforeseen events due to lack of visibility or deficiencies in the road surface, among other reasons”, concluded Martín.
