This disinfection and fumigation programme will be carried out in all the schools in Mijas.

The Ministry for Education of the Regional Government in Andalusia (Junta) is undertaking works in the schools of Mijas to adapt them to current regulations on accessibility. According to the Councillor for Education in Mijas, Mariló Olmedo (Cs), these are “very important” works, as they allow students with reduced mobility to study under equal conditions. In total, the Junta is investing 60,000 euros in two specific projects. “In the Los Claveles Early Childhood Education Centre (La Cala) a toilet is being adapted and in the Los Campanales school (Las Lagunas) architectural barriers are being eliminated and a toilet is also being adapted in the Infant’s building”, explained the councillor, who remarked that in Mijas there are school buildings that are very old and they were not adapted to current accessibility regulations.
“Updating our schools has been a demand of the educational community for many years. Los Campanales, for example, is 39 years old and does not comply with accessibility regulations, until now it had neither access nor adapted toilets for students with reduced mobility”, explained the councillor. Last year, Olmedo recalled, these same improvements were also made in another school in the municipality, such as was the case of El Albero, “where architectural barriers were removed and an adapted toilet was installed”.

Maintenance and conservation
Olmedo specified that these works have an execution period of one month. “They will be finished before the start of the school year”, assured the councillor. “We are going full-speed so that the centres are ready for the beginning of September. Taking advantage of the fact that the schools are empty, we are carrying out painting work, plumbing, locks, electricity... We are going around all the schools and fixing everything that is in disrepair”, concluded Olmedo.

Fumigation work

At the CEIP Indira Gandhi, the council is carrying out disinfection, fumigation and rodent controls, and the cleaning and disinfection of the reservoirs of the school building. In addition, taking advantage of the summer, tests are carried out to control and analyze the water and clean the reservoirs so that in the month of September the children return safely to the educational centres. This disinfection and fumigation programme will be carried out in all the schools in Mijas.
